«The texts published here are, therefore, the expression of moments of interaction between speakers and audiences, as well as moments of response, more or less spontaneous, to specific cases presented by the speakers in their interventions.
(…)
From those discussions we were left with a number of recognitions: first, that it will not be possible to think about places without the understanding of their own evolving cha-racter. Secondly, we confirmed once again that the essentialism of cultural approaches is dangerous and colonising. And finally, that what we are today, the place we inhabit, we make at each and every moment; embedded however of all that occupies the space of body and memory, but conscious nevertheless that the very awareness of history always exists under the imprint of the present.
From these recognitions the ideas of fluidity and sense were born. They are associated with the reshaping of many organising structures of our perception and lived experience of (social) space and the mechanisms that characterise the relations that take place in that space.»
